New Delhi (Agency): The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced on Wednesday that a new recruitment commission will soon replace the previously disbanded Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC). A notification regarding the establishment of the new commission will be issued shortly.
This decision comes after the HPSSC was dissolved in February following a paper leak scandal that was discovered in December 2022. A senior assistant of the commission, Uma Azad, was arrested with a solved question paper and a significant amount of cash.
The Deepak Shanan-led committee, responsible for providing recommendations on the new commission’s design, presented a comprehensive outline late Tuesday evening. The presentation emphasized various measures targeted at ensuring transparency, structural integrity, and fairness in the proposed recruitment commission’s operations.
Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the new commission would focus exclusively on merit-based selection, working to eliminate concerns related to leaks and other irregularities. He elaborated on the government’s commitment to a transparent recruitment process that prioritizes the interests of the state’s youth.
The new system is designed to minimize human interference during exams by employing foolproof methods to maintain integrity. Modern tools, practices, and techniques will be used in crafting exam papers, streamlining the recruitment process, and combating corruption. Recruitment activities will begin once the new Selection Commission is officially established.
The chairman of the committee, Shanan, mentioned that a second report would be submitted soon, further detailing the recruitment commission’s functionality with more precision.
The initiative to replace HPSSC with a new, transparent recruitment commission is a significant step towards restoring trust and integrity in the recruitment process in Himachal Pradesh. By focusing on merit-based selection and employing modern methods to secure the examination process, the state government aims to build a system that is fair, transparent, and free from corruption. It also reflects a broader effort to ensure that the opportunities for employment are accessible and equitable for the youth of the state, contributing to the overall development and progress of the region.
