Agency(Bangalore): In Bengaluru, it has been revealed that D K Suresh, the Congress Member of Parliament representing Bangalore Rural, possesses assets amounting to a staggering Rs 593 crore, marking a significant increase of 75% over the past five years. This information came to light through an affidavit submitted by Suresh as part of his nomination process for the upcoming election, where he seeks to secure his position once again.
Previously, before the 2019 general elections, Suresh, who is the younger sibling of the Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress leader D K Shivakumar, had declared his assets to be worth Rs 339 crore. The growth in his wealth highlights his substantial financial gains during his tenure.
Suresh, at 57 years old, has a diversified portfolio including Rs 16.61 crore held in bank deposits. His investment in real estate is extensive, with ownership of agricultural land across 21 locations valued at Rs 32.76 crore, and non-agricultural land at 27 different sites amounting to Rs 210.47 crore. Additionally, he owns nine commercial buildings with a total worth of Rs 211.91 crore and three residential buildings valued at Rs 27.13 crore.
Despite his wealth, Suresh has declared liabilities totaling Rs 150.06 crore and is facing ‘liabilities under dispute’ amounting to Rs 57.27 crore.
In the upcoming electoral battle for Bangalore Rural, the opposition, a coalition between the BJP and JD(S), has nominated Dr C N Manjunath, a renowned cardiac surgeon with close familial ties to prominent political figures such as former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. Dr Manjunath, who is contesting under the BJP banner, brings a notable background in healthcare, having led the state’s Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for over 17 years until his retirement in January of this year.
