The Aryavarth Express:
Patna (Bihar), March 30: Bihar Minister Ramkripal Yadav on Monday said he could not confirm Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s next move following his election to the Rajya Sabha, stating that the decision rests solely with Kumar.
“I cannot tell… He has been elected to the Rajya Sabha, and he will make a decision,” Yadav told reporters.
Nitish Kumar is set to resign from the Bihar Legislative Council today in line with constitutional provisions requiring members to vacate their state legislature seat within 14 days of being elected to Parliament. Kumar, elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, is expected to take oath on April 9.
His resignation has sparked speculation about a potential leadership change in Bihar, with names like BJP leader Samrat Choudhary and Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, being discussed as possible successors.
JD(U) MLA Anant Kumar Singh confirmed Kumar’s decision to resign, adding that while party members hoped he would stay, the Chief Minister remained firm.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar was elected unopposed as president of the Janata Dal (United) after being the sole candidate to file a nomination.
Separately, Ramkripal Yadav criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of “emotional blackmail” ahead of state assembly elections. His remarks came after Banerjee suggested non-vegetarian food consumption could be affected if the BJP comes to power.
West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
