Agency (New Delhi): The recent Lok Sabha election results demonstrate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can indeed be defeated, according to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. He made this assertion on Wednesday as he met with his party’s victorious candidates.
On June 4, Shiv Sena (UBT) winners Rajabhau Prakash Waje from the Nashik seat and Sanjay Dina Patil from Mumbai North East visited former Maharashtra chief minister Thackeray at his residence. This meeting followed the announcement of the election results.
“The elections have shown that the BJP can be defeated. The myth (that it cannot be defeated) has been broken,” Thackeray stated.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) secured nine seats, while the Sharad Pawar-led NCP won seven seats. The Congress emerged as the single largest party with 13 Lok Sabha seats out of the 48 available in Maharashtra.
In Mumbai, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won four out of six seats, while the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena each claimed one seat in the financial capital.
Thackeray met his party’s Mumbai South seat winner Arvind Sawant and Mumbai South Central seat winner Anil Desai on June 4.
In the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP won 240 seats, falling short of a majority on its own. However, the BJP is expected to form the government with the support of its allies.
All newly elected Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders from outside Mumbai are scheduled to meet Thackeray on Wednesday.
