Agency (Mumbai): A 30-year-old actor was arrested for allegedly trailing Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s convoy on the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai to avoid paying the toll, a police official reported on Wednesday. The accused, Shubam Kumar, who is known for creating video content on social media, was in his car with family members at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred on Monday when Kumar followed the CM’s convoy into the VIP lane, which is toll-free, at the sea link toll plaza. Despite being signaled to stop by an on-duty traffic constable, Kumar continued driving. He was eventually apprehended near Worli and handed over to the Bandra police.
During questioning, it was revealed that Kumar attempted to evade the toll on the cable-stayed sea bridge by following the convoy, which was en route from Thane city to CM Shinde’s official residence, ‘Varsha’, in South Mumbai.
Kumar has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to rash and negligent driving, as well as relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. This incident highlights the lengths to which individuals might go to evade toll payments and the stringent actions taken by authorities to enforce traffic regulations.
