New Delhi (Agency): General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva, the Commander of the Brazilian Army, is in India for a six-day visit, from August 28th to September 2nd, 2023. This trip comes as an important milestone in the long-standing relationship between India’s and Brazil’s armed forces.
The visit began with a moving wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial on August 29th. Here, General Tomas honored the heroes of the Indian Armed Forces who gave their lives for their country. This respectful act highlights the joint commitment of both countries to peace and security.
After the ceremony, a formal Guard of Honour greeted General Tomas at the South Block Lawns in New Delhi. Later, he met with General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Army Staff in India. The two military leaders exchanged ideas and talked about current issues. They also spoke about ways to make the cooperation between the two armies even stronger.
General Tomas didn’t just meet with army leaders. He also had a meeting with General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Shri Giridhar Aramane, the Defence Secretary of India. These talks focused on shared goals. Both countries want to work together more in the field of defence.
While in India, General Tomas also spent time with other high-ranking officers at the Army Headquarters. These meetings let both sides share knowledge and ideas. They show a commitment to learn from each other and be better at what they do in the military.
One of the highlights of General Tomas’s trip will be his visit to the Pokaran Field Firing Ranges. Here, he will see different weapon platforms in action. This will include weapons made in India. The demonstrations will show the kinds of weapon systems that the Indian Army has.
