Khatima (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday extended warm wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasions of Makar Sankranti, Uttaraini and Ghughuti Tyohar.
In a video message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister conveyed his greetings, saying, “Heartiest greetings and best wishes to all the residents of the state on the sacred festivals of Makar Sankranti, Uttaraini and Ghughuti Tyohar, which are deeply connected to Uttarakhand’s rich folk traditions.”
Highlighting the importance of the festivals, Dhami expressed hope that they would bring happiness, prosperity and renewed energy to everyone’s lives. He said the festivals, which mark the Sun God’s transition to Uttarayan, symbolise folk faith, a close bond with nature and a sense of renewed awareness.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Uttarayani Kauthik Fair organised by the Kumaon Cultural Upliftment Forum in Khatima by lighting the ceremonial lamp at the Seed Corporation premises.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami announced the construction of a ‘Parvatiya Vikas Bhawan’ (Mountain Development Building) and directed the District Magistrate to identify suitable land for the project. He also declared that the Uttarayani Fair would be included in the official calendar and assured financial assistance. Additionally, on the organisers’ request, he announced plans for the construction of a permanent stage for the fair.
The Chief Minister described Makar Sankranti as a festival of both spiritual and scientific importance, celebrated to mark the Sun’s transition into Uttarayan. He noted that in Indian culture, the Sun is regarded as the king among planets, and the festival symbolises the Sun’s visit to the homes of people.
Calling Uttarayani a celebration of culture, faith and the philosophy of life, Dhami said the festival brings a message of new energy, hope and fresh beginnings. He expressed satisfaction that events like the Uttarayani Kauthik are helping the younger generation reconnect with their cultural roots.
Referring to his personal bond with the region, Dhami said Khatima is not just an assembly constituency for him but his home, from where he began his journey in public service.
