New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow today at around 11:00 AM, marking a major milestone in India’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
The facility is a key component of the broader vision for the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC). It is aimed at bolstering indigenous defence production under the AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative. The inauguration follows the foundation laying of the Defence Technology & Test Centre (DTTC) and the BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre by the Defence Minister on December 26, 2021.
According to official sources, the DTTC, spread across 22 acres, is designed to foster the growth of defence and aerospace clusters in the region. This first-of-its-kind centre will streamline the development and induction process of advanced defence systems by offering a centralised technological infrastructure. The DTTC will operate through six specialized subcentres, providing critical support to industries, startups, and academic institutions.
Adjacent to the DTTC is the expansive BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre, developed by BrahMos Aerospace on a 200-acre site. This facility is dedicated to the production of the next-generation BRAHMOS-NG (Next Generation) missile—a lighter, smarter, and more adaptable version of the existing BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile.
The new BRAHMOS-NG variant will be compatible with a wider range of modern platforms across land, sea, air, and underwater domains, significantly enhancing the flexibility and strength of India’s armed forces.
The BRAHMOS missile, developed through a joint venture between India and Russia, remains one of the fastest and most precise cruise missiles in the world. Its continued evolution underscores India’s growing self-reliance and technological prowess in the defence sector.
The new facilities are expected to be a game-changer for the UP DIC, providing a robust platform for innovation, skill development, and industrial collaboration, while also reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in advanced missile systems.
