Agency (Uttar Pradesh): A woman was arrested in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by tying his hands and legs, burning him with cigarettes, and trying to strangle him, police reported on Tuesday. The victim, Mannan Zaidi (35), filed a complaint at the Syohara police station detailing the incident.
Zaidi claimed that on the night of April 29, his wife, Mehar Jahan, mixed an intoxicating substance in his milk. A CCTV footage of the incident surfaced online, showing Jahan smoking beside her husband, who was tied to a bed. The footage captures Jahan burning him with a cigarette, sitting on his chest, and attempting to strangle him.
Based on Zaidi’s complaint, the police registered a case against Jahan under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC): Section 307 (attempt to murder), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 328 (administering stupefying drug with intent to cause hurt), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
Jahan was subsequently arrested on Sunday, police confirmed.
