Agency (Odisha): In a tragic turn of events, the bodies of a man, his wife, and their 12-year-old daughter were found in a car in Jharsuguda, Odisha, on Thursday morning. The deceased were identified as Sujit Ray, his wife Khusbu, and their daughter Arpita. All three bore gunshot wounds, with their bodies discovered inside a car parked at a playground near Banipahada, under the jurisdiction of Lakhanpur police station, according to Jharsuguda SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Sujit Ray first shot his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself. This act was reportedly driven by overwhelming financial losses from online gambling. A complaint regarding the family’s disappearance was filed at Orient police station around 10:30 PM on Wednesday. Utilizing their mobile phone signals, authorities located the bodies in a car with its engine running and the air conditioning on. Both Khusbu and Arpita had cloth tied over their eyes, while Sujit was found seated in the driver’s seat.
Upon inspecting Sujit Ray’s mobile phone, investigators uncovered his deep involvement in various online gambling platforms. It was revealed that he had incurred losses exceeding Rs 4.25 lakh on a single app and had taken out loans from multiple sources to support his gambling addiction. The police have confiscated the gun, spent bullet casings, and other evidence, and further inquiries are underway.
This incident highlights the severe repercussions of gambling addiction and its potential to devastate lives and families. The community is left in shock and mourning as authorities continue their investigation into this heartbreaking case.
