New Delhi (Agency):The ‘One Nation, One Election’ idea of India’s NDA government is a “cheap tactic” to shift focus from real issues, said K T Rama Rao, Telangana Minister and Working President of BRS, on Tuesday. Speaking informally to journalists, he expressed strong belief that his party, the BRS, would dominate in the forthcoming assembly elections by winning more than 90 seats.
Rama Rao criticized opposition parties in Telangana for being unclear on the issues they wish to challenge Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with. He also stated that neither the BJP nor the Congress have a strong “CM face” for the upcoming elections. These parties rely on “sealed covers” from party high commands to select a chief minister nominee, he claimed.
“‘One Nation, One Election’ is a cheap political gimmick. It is an attention diversion tactic of NDA,” Rama Rao declared. He questioned why the idea has not been implemented in the past nine years and whether there’s a guarantee it will happen now. “If BJP wants to do so, who can stop them? They have a bulldozing majority in the Parliament.”
Rama Rao also revealed that his party had supported the idea of simultaneous polls in 2018, but nothing came of it. He said they would reconsider it if it comes up in Parliament again. He went on to predict that the BJP will lose elections in all five states, including Telangana, slated for upcoming polls.
He blamed Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Karimnagar Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar for failing to initiate any projects in Telangana. “We will win the polls with over 90 seats. There’s an emphatic feeling among the majority of people that KCR will win certainly for his all-round development and welfare measures,” he said.
According to Rama Rao, the BRS government has several development projects to its credit, whereas the opposition parties have nothing to boast about. He announced that 15 new medical colleges will open in Telangana on September 15, bringing the total number to 34.
Commenting on the recently concluded G20 summit in India, Rama Rao said that the presidency coming to India was just by rotation and didn’t benefit the nation. “I don’t think people of India are benefited in any form or fashion,” he stated.
Rama Rao did not comment on the recent events in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, which include the arrest of opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu.
