New Delhi (Agency): Amid a wave of public scrutiny following controversial remarks by his son Udhayanidhi Stalin against Sanatan Dharma, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched a strong critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at an event in Chennai, he claimed the Prime Minister’s actions are “unconstitutional” and pose a threat to India’s “diversity, secularism, and social justice.”
MK Stalin expressed these views while inaugurating ‘Media Meet 2023,’ organized by the Kerala Media Academy-Malayale Association. He said, “The country was founded on the ideals of diversity, secularism, and social justice. By destroying these, they (BJP) are destroying the country.” He urged the media to play a crucial role in “saving the country as we know it.”
Stalin emphasized that Prime Minister Modi had taken an oath to uphold the Constitution but had acted against it. “People across the country should understand this and resist attempts to destroy the country,” he stated. He called upon the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to lead the fight against these challenges, and advised the media to not divert public attention from important issues.
The Centre’s announcement for a Special Session of Parliament from September 18 to 22 drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, who claimed they were not consulted. At the same event, Stalin unveiled a book called ‘The Changing Mediascape’ by veteran journalist BRP Bhaskar and launched a YouTube documentary on another seasoned journalist, Shashi Kumar.
The Chief Minister also addressed the controversy surrounding his son Udhayanidhi, who serves as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in Tamil Nadu. Last week, Udhayanidhi made remarks equating Sanatan Dharma with “mosquitoes, dengue, malaria, fever and corona,” and said it should be “eradicated.”
Defending his son, Stalin posted, “Hon’ble Minister @UdhayStalindidn’t call for ‘genocide’ as distorted by BJP, but only spoke against discrimination.” He expressed disappointment over how the issue has been blown out of proportion by the BJP, accusing them of being “driven on fake narratives.”
