New Delhi (Agency): The Rajasthan High Court has issued a notice to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in connection with his statement alleging corruption in the state judiciary. The notice was issued in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by former judicial officer and advocate Shivcharan Gupta.
The high court has asked Chief Minister Gehlot to provide clarification regarding the basis of his statement, in which he claimed that there was corruption in courts with lawyers writing judgments. The PIL was filed in response to Gehlot’s allegations of corrupt judicial practices.
The petition submitted to the high court asserts that the Chief Minister’s statement has impugned the reputation of judges and legal practitioners, considering it an assault on their credibility. It further calls for action against the Chief Minister on grounds of “contempt of court.”
Shivcharan Gupta, the advocate representing the petitioner, confirmed that the high court has sought a response from Chief Minister Gehlot within the next three weeks. The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for October 3.
