New Delhi (Agency): In light of the recent unrest in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh spoke up, emphasizing that the turmoil was stirred by “vested interests and outside elements”. Their goal? To shake the stability of both the state and the nation at large.
N. Biren made a heartfelt plea: “refrain from violence and to forgive and forget whatever had happened earlier.” He urged the public to come forward, share their concerns, and work towards mutual understanding for everyone’s benefit. The Chief Minister’s message was clear: It’s time to rebuild and look ahead.
He updated the people on measures being taken to help those most affected by the disturbances. Recognizing the struggles of displaced families, the government is on the move. Plans are underway to resettle them back to their original homes. In instances where that’s not possible right now, the government is providing temporary housing solutions.
For families with no current income source, Biren introduced a ‘One Family One Livelihood’ initiative. “Our focus is on rehabilitation and returning to normalcy soon,” he said.
While addressing the state’s safety, Biren pointed out the increased security, especially for farmers, ensuring their work goes on uninterrupted. With the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, essential supplies are reaching hill areas. Enhancing connectivity further, he mentioned the introduction of helicopter services and the recent arrival of goods trains at Khongsang Railways Station.
Biren also discussed the government’s ‘War on Drugs’. The campaign isn’t against any particular community but rather an effort to protect the younger generations from drug addiction. Manipur, being a major gateway for illegal drugs entering India, faces challenges. The campaign has been vital in preventing numerous youths from falling into the drug trap.
Environmental concerns were also on the agenda. Large-scale deforestation and its ill effects came into the spotlight. Biren appealed to the people to actively participate in conserving forests and water bodies.
Highlighting the state’s development, the Chief Minister mentioned that in the last six years, Manipur has enjoyed a peaceful phase without any major shutdowns or blockades. This peace has paved the way for more national and international events to be hosted in Manipur.
However, the recent misunderstandings between communities have led to some tragic events, causing property damages and loss of lives. N. Biren expressed concern for those affected, many of whom now find shelter in relief camps.
On a brighter note, he shed light on the state’s achievements, including coaching classes for prestigious civil service exams and the success of many aspirants from Manipur.
During the day’s celebrations, the Chief Minister had the honor of presenting several awards. The Chief Minister’s Trophy for Community Service and awards for exceptional performance in handling cases related to drug abuse were among the accolades given out.
Ending on a hopeful note, Biren looked forward to a brighter, united future for Manipur.
