Agency (New Delhi): Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, inaugurated a new girls’ hostel named “Phalguni” and “Chayan Bhawan” of the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi. The event was graced by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, Secretary of DARE, Director General of ICAR Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Chairman of ASRB Dr. Sanjay Kumar, and IAIR Director Dr. A.K. Singh.
In his address, Munda highlighted the Central Government’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership towards the development of the agriculture sector and farmer welfare. He emphasized that the government aims to make farmers self-reliant and capable of contributing to both national and global markets. This vision includes integrating modern technologies into farming and leveraging satellite assistance for agricultural endeavors. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras’ role in this process was also acknowledged.
Munda urged tribal farmers from Jharkhand, who received advanced technological training and participated in field visits at Pusa, to apply and disseminate their newfound knowledge in their communities. He also mentioned ongoing efforts at Pusa in conserving rare seeds and plants and conducting rapid research focused on quality and nutrition.
The ceremony also included remarks from other dignitaries who celebrated India’s recent achievements, including becoming the 5th largest economy, assuming the G-20 presidency, and effectively managing the Corona crisis.
IARI Director Dr. Singh detailed the features of the “Falguni” hostel, which houses 500 rooms and is equipped with various amenities like a food court, solar energy system, rainwater harvesting, Wi-Fi, and more. The event was attended by officials, scientists, teachers, students, and farmers from ICAR, IAIR, ASRB.
This inauguration marks a significant step in enhancing facilities for agricultural research and education, reflecting the government’s broader strategy for agricultural development and empowerment of farmers in India.
