Agency(Mysuru, Karnataka): In a significant operation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Karnataka Excise Department has uncovered a massive amount of illicit liquor, worth Rs 98.52 crore, at a facility operated by United Breweries in Mysuru district. The discovery was made following a raid on the brewery unit located in Nanjangudu taluk on April 2, initiated based on credible intelligence.
The Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Nagashayana, disclosed details of the operation to journalists in Mysuru, confirming that the seizure was made within the Tandya industrial area of Immavu village, which falls under a Lok Sabha constituency’s jurisdiction. In response to the find, authorities have registered a case against United Breweries’ unit, marking a significant enforcement action against illegal alcohol distribution in the region.
The raid was conducted after the District Election Officer’s office received an anonymous tip, prompting the District Collector and District Election Officers to inspect the brewery unit. This action aligns with heightened vigilance and enforcement efforts by state agencies in the lead-up to national elections, aiming to curb the illicit flow of liquor and ensure fair electoral practices.
Further details on the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings against the implicated brewery unit are anticipated as the case progresses.
