Agency (New Delhi): In a significant administrative move, 223 contractual workers of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) were dismissed from their positions this Thursday. This decision, mandated by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, came after an audit revealed irregularities in their hiring process. These employees were recruited during the tenure of Aam Aadmi Party MP Swati Maliwal, who served as the DCW’s chairperson.
Reports from ANI highlight that these appointments were made by Maliwal without the necessary approvals, violating established rules. The Department of Women and Child Development in Delhi, referencing findings from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and a special audit by the Directorate of Audit of the Delhi government, noted substantial administrative and financial misconduct within the DCW. This included unauthorized staff engagements and the contentious appointment of a consultant cum advisor cum member secretary, which was not approved by the Lieutenant Governor but was instead made unilaterally by the DCW.
The audit reports concluded that the DCW had overstepped its authority and failed to adhere to the procedures and regulations stipulated by the Delhi government. In light of these violations, Saxena’s directive declared the irregular appointments null and void from the outset, resulting in their immediate termination.
