New Delhi (Agency): A serious landslide struck the Chamba area in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Monday, causing immediate concern that people and vehicles might be trapped in the debris. The event has prompted a swift and coordinated response from emergency services, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushing to the location to commence rescue efforts.
The landslide, which occurred near Chamba Police Station, has completely blocked the New Tehri-Chamba motor road. The obstruction has led to a massive mound of rubble, and urgent efforts are being made to dig through it in search of anyone who could be trapped. As the situation is still unfolding, there has been no official confirmation of any casualties, but local residents have expressed fears that some vehicles and people might be buried under the debris.
The SDRF is taking the lead in the search and rescue operations, deploying heavy machinery like JCBs to clear the site and look for any signs of trapped individuals. The urgency of the situation is apparent, with the quick mobilization of resources to address what could be a life-threatening scenario for those potentially caught in the landslide.
On the scene, along with the SDRF, are key officials including District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit, Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Bhullar, and Chief Development Officer Manish Kumar. Their presence underscores the gravity of the situation and the priority being given to the rescue efforts.
Uttarakhand is a region known for its challenging topography, with steep and rugged terrain that often experiences landslides, especially during the monsoon season. These natural occurrences can have devastating effects on the local communities, blocking essential transportation routes and posing serious risks to life and property.
