Agency (Bengaluru): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar revealed the state government’s initiative to construct flyovers along specific metro line stretches as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru. Speaking at the ‘Government at Your Doorstep’ event at Jnanabharathi, Shivakumar stated that a proposal regarding this plan has been submitted to the Centre.
The Deputy CM emphasized the Chief Minister’s announcement of several projects in the state budget aimed at Bengaluru’s development, with the upcoming BBMP budget expected to further complement these initiatives. The government is currently preparing a feasibility report for constructing tunnel roads in areas such as Yeshwanthpura, Sumanahalli, and Goraguntepalya.
Shivakumar noted the completion of mass grievance redressal programs in 12 Bengaluru Assembly constituencies, through which approximately 20,000 pleas have been received. He highlighted the Chief Minister’s involvement in addressing these concerns through Janaspandana events and the formation of a dedicated team to manage the grievances in a phased manner.
The Deputy CM criticized the previous BJP government for only making promises, contrasting it with the current administration’s actions and achievements. He pointed out the success of government guarantee schemes reaching 95% of the population, acknowledging technical glitches in reaching the remaining 5%. The state government is also considering subsidies for installing solar panels on terraces.
Shivakumar mentioned the ‘Namma Swattu’ scheme, under which the government is surveying properties in Bengaluru and delivering property documents directly to residents. He addressed the issue of document tampering by officials and the steps taken against such malpractices, including the filing of FIRs. Amendments to property tax laws and the regulation of street vendors’ business locations were also discussed.
Further, Shivakumar expressed his commitment to solving water-related issues in Bengaluru, including plans to provide additional water resources to the city by May and addressing the challenges posed by the water mafia and depleted groundwater levels. He also highlighted the role of his brother, D.K. Suresh, in addressing local issues in Kanakapura, ahead of the upcoming elections.
This announcement marks a significant step in the state government’s efforts to address Bengaluru’s chronic traffic problems and improve urban infrastructure, showcasing a proactive approach to urban development and governance.
