Agency(Karnataka): In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its communication strategy, the Congress-led government in Karnataka, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has officially appointed five of its ministers as spokespersons. This decision underscores the administration’s commitment to coherent and unified messaging, reflecting the party’s core ideologies.
The appointed spokespersons include Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, IT/BT & Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, and Labour Minister Santosh Lad. These ministers, recognized for their articulate nature and deep-rooted understanding of the Congress party’s principles, are tasked with the crucial role of communicating the government’s policies, achievements, and perspectives to the public and media.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed Chief Secretary Rajneesh Goel to ensure these spokespersons are granted full access to all necessary government documents, achievements, and information by the heads of various departments. This measure is intended to facilitate the accurate and effective dissemination of information, particularly during times of crisis or controversy, thereby avoiding the inconsistencies and miscommunications that have previously led to public embarrassments for the government.
The opposition, however, has voiced criticism regarding this move. Leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, questioned the implication of this decision on the capability of the other ministers to represent the government adequately. Furthermore, Ashoka pointedly criticized the inclusion of Priyank Kharge as a spokesperson, questioning whether this role was a form of compensation for his controversial involvement in the ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan case, accusing him of spreading falsehoods and attempting to mislead the public about the incident.
This development marks a significant step in the Karnataka government’s efforts to streamline its public relations approach, aiming for a more organized and effective communication with the citizenry and the media at large.
