Agency(Karnataka): In a notable prelude to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has shared insights suggesting a significant shift in political loyalties within the state. According to Shivakumar, a number of party workers from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) [JDS] have expressed a keen interest in aligning with the Congress party, signaling a potential realignment in Karnataka’s political landscape.
Addressing the media from his Sadashivanagar residence and the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, Shivakumar elaborated on the party’s strategy to accommodate this influx of new members. He indicated that instructions had been relayed to Congress workers at the local level to facilitate the seamless integration of these BJP and JDS members into the Congress fold.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who also serves as the state’s Congress president, highlighted the growing concern among JDS workers regarding the dynastic expansion within the Devegowda family. This concern, he noted, stems from the anticipation of increased competition for political space and representation within the JDS, thereby prompting some party members to reconsider their political affiliations.
Shivakumar’s comments come at a time when political parties are in full gear preparing for the Lok Sabha elections, with strategies and alliances being carefully crafted to maximize electoral gains. In response to questions about the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Karnataka, Shivakumar assured that any decisions would be made following thorough discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other key party leaders.
Furthermore, when queried about the process of candidate selection for the upcoming elections, Shivakumar emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to grassroots feedback. He noted that the party leadership has been actively soliciting and incorporating opinions from party workers across levels to inform their candidate choices, underscoring the party’s inclusive approach to election preparations.
As the political dynamics in Karnataka continue to evolve, Shivakumar’s revelations point to a potentially transformative period for the state’s political parties, with the Congress party seemingly poised to expand its base through strategic incorporations from rival parties.
