New Delhi (Agency): The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka Police has wrapped up the initial stage of its investigation into the scandalous event at Nethrajyothi Paramedical College, Udupi. In this case, some female students reportedly filmed others inside the restroom.
Deputy SP Anjumala, under the supervision of CID ADGP Manish Kharbikar, led the probe. They have finished numerous interviews, recording the statements of victims, those accused, college officials, and other related individuals. Now, the team is waiting for a report on the three mobile phones they took from the accused students. An officer is expected to report on the incident shortly.
The political atmosphere around the incident is charged. The BJP is calling for legal action against the three accused Muslim students. They claim that these students filmed Hindu girls and distributed the videos. Furthermore, they argue that this act was a planned crime against Hindu girls. They also criticize the Congress-led state government, accusing it of trying to suppress the matter.
Rashmi Samanth, a woman activist, reportedly faced harassment from the Karnataka Police after speaking out about the issue. The college has stated that the victims didn’t want to report the accused. At first, the police said they couldn’t proceed due to insufficient evidence. However, as the matter gained national attention, they began an investigation on their own initiative.
Actress and politician Khushbu Sundar, representing the National Commission for Women, went to Udupi to look into the matter. In addition, the BJP organized protests across the state. They met with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, asking for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle the probe. While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed a Deputy SP rank police officer to investigate, the BJP voiced concerns. They felt that a Deputy SP couldn’t investigate without interference and that the state government might try to quieten the incident due to “appeasement politics.” As a result, the CID took over. Currently, the students accused are out on bail.Investigation Advances in Udupi Restroom Filming Case
