New Delhi (Agency): After a period of heavy rainfall and devastating landslides, Himachal Pradesh is facing a significant crisis. But according to the state’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, “relentless efforts” are being made to restore critical roadways and other basic amenities.
The Chief Minister provided these comments during a two-day event where he was the chief guest on Saturday evening. According to him, temporary roads are being rapidly built to help move agricultural and horticultural produce, which will help minimize the financial losses for the state’s farmers.
Earlier, the State Emergency Operation Centre reported that as many as 281 roads, including National Highway 305, had been blocked due to the incessant rainfall. This has led to significant disruptions, including affecting 177 water supply schemes. Despite these challenges, no fire incidents have been reported in the last 24 hours, government data confirmed.
“The state is grappling with devastation, but brave and relentless efforts are being dedicated day and night to restore crucial roadways and other basic amenities,” Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized. He added that the government is focusing on “resource mobilization” and aims to make Himachal Pradesh “self-sufficient in the coming four years and the most prosperous state in ten years.”
Not just roadways and amenities, the spirit of governance is also being manifested in rescue missions. For instance, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy recently led an extraordinary rescue operation. They successfully saved 300 individuals who were stranded at a height of 14,000 feet in minus four-degree temperature at Chandratal Lake.
Besides immediate recovery efforts, Chief Minister Sukhu revealed that the state government is also dedicated to long-term goals. These include promoting education, improving healthcare services, and enhancing employment opportunities for the state’s youth. “The state government has an unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and integrating advanced technology into the state’s healthcare sector,” he said.
In attendance at the event were other state dignitaries like Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, as well as several senior officers.
