Agency(Shimla): Himachal Pradesh is currently experiencing significant disruptions due to heavy snowfall, resulting in the closure of 475 roads, including five national highways. The State Disaster Management Authority reports that 333 electricity supply schemes and 57 water supply schemes have also been affected in the region.
The affected areas include 56 roads in Chamba, one in Kangra, six in Kinnaur, 51 in Mandi, and 133 roads in Shimla. Compared to the previous day, where 504 roads, including four national highways, were closed, there has been a slight improvement. However, essential services like electricity and water supply continue to face disruptions.
Snow-clearing operations are underway, particularly in nine stations of Lahaul-Spiti, which received fresh snowfall. The Lahaul Spiti police have been actively updating the weather and road status on their social media handles. These updates include snow depths of 1-5 feet in areas like Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, Udaipur, Tindi, Koksar, Sissu, North Portal, and South Portal.
The picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh, known for its scenic beauty, has been attracting a large number of tourists since the New Year. While other North Indian states are engulfed in fog, Himachal Pradesh is experiencing snowfall, drawing more visitors. However, the Himachal Pradesh Police have advised people to assess weather conditions before traveling and to undertake journeys only when necessary.
Earlier on Friday, the situation was more severe with nearly 566 roads, including six national highways, closed across various regions of the state due to the snowfall. Approximately 700 electricity supply schemes were also disrupted.
This situation poses challenges for both residents and tourists in the region, with authorities working diligently to restore normalcy by clearing snow and repairing disrupted services. The focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone affected by these weather conditions.
