New Delhi (Agency): Heavy rains have struck parts of Rajasthan, including Dholpur and Banswara, causing disruptions to transportation and other activities, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday. In Dholpur, a record 23 cm of rainfall was measured, followed by 15 cm in Banswara since Saturday morning.
Due to the heavy downpour, the ground under railway tracks in Dholpur caved in, leading to the cancellation of two trains and the diversion of several others, according to railway officials of the Jhansi division. This has disrupted the daily commute and affected many people’s travel plans.
The Met department stated, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded at some places in Dholpur and Banswara districts in the last 24 hours. Apart from this, light to moderate rain has been recorded in several parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, and Ajmer divisions.”
Radheshyam Sharma, director of the weather office’s Jaipur center, explained that a circulation system forming over Madhya Pradesh and surrounding eastern Rajasthan is the reason for the continued rains. He indicated that the rainfall is expected to persist in parts of Bharatpur, Kota, and Jaipur divisions on Monday. Moreover, there is a possibility of rain at isolated places in eastern Rajasthan on September 12 and 13.
Residents are advised to be cautious and to prepare for more downpour in the coming days. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates and advisories as needed.
The ongoing heavy rains and the forecast for more rainfall in the next two to three days have raised concerns about further disruptions and the need for urgent preventive measures. The weather conditions have also sparked conversations about the state’s preparedness to handle such natural events.
