New Delhi (Agency): Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Jagmohan Yadav, has been booked for allegedly assaulting and intimidating a village head. The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Tuesday in Jaunpur. The incident became public when a video went viral on social media platforms.
Jagmohan Yadav is a 1983 batch IPS officer who served as the DGP of Uttar Pradesh from December 31, 2014, to December 31, 2015. The FIR was filed based on a complaint by village head Chandresh Gupta. According to Circle Officer (CO) Atar Singh, residents of Tarhati village had earlier lodged a complaint, claiming that Yadav and his family had taken over different plots of public land in the village.
In response to this complaint, a police team, accompanied by revenue department officials and a consolidation officer, visited the village on Monday afternoon. “While the villagers were sharing their grievances, Yadav arrived and had a scuffle with Gupta,” said CO Singh.
The police at the scene faced challenges in calming the situation. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Machhlishahr arrived after learning about the incident. On Monday evening, a fresh complaint was lodged by Gupta, leading to the registration of an FIR against Yadav. The FIR includes charges under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mungrabadshahpur police station.
This incident has brought into focus the influence and power wielded by high-ranking officials, even after their retirement. The quick action taken in registering an FIR indicates a commitment to law and order, showing that no one is above the law.
