Agency (Maharashtra): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded sharply on Thursday to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s recent criticisms, claiming Thackeray had “lost his mental balance” and needed psychiatric treatment. This exchange came after Thackeray, during a campaign rally, referred to Fadnavis and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as “intoxicated monkeys” acting on orders from Delhi.
“Uddhav Thackeray has lost his mental balance. He needs treatment by a psychiatrist. He is talking like this because he can see defeat in the elections clearly,” Fadnavis told reporters.
Fadnavis accused Thackeray of resorting to foul language because he has been rejected by the people. He suggested that Thackeray’s frustration stems from the evident possibility of losing the upcoming elections.
The political rift between Thackeray and the BJP dates back to the 2019 assembly elections, after which Thackeray parted ways with his longtime ally. Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) then joined forces with the undivided NCP and Congress to form a government in Maharashtra.
The escalating verbal attacks highlight the intense political rivalry and the high stakes in the Maharashtra elections. As the election campaign heats up, the exchanges between these political leaders are likely to become more contentious.
