Agency(Madhya Pradesh): A tragic incident occurred at the renowned Mahakaleshwar temple located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where a 79-year-old servant passed away due to injuries sustained in a fire last month. This devastating event happened during the celebrated ‘bhasma aarti’ ceremony, leading to the injury of 14 people, including several priests and other temple workers.
The fire was initiated in the innermost sanctum of the temple on March 25, as ‘gulal’, a colored powder, inadvertently landed on a puja thali holding ignited camphor, which quickly flamed up. The temple servant, Satyanarayan Soni, was among those severely hurt in the blaze. Initially, he was rushed to a private medical facility in Indore. However, due to the worsening of his condition, he was later transferred to the National Burns Centre in Mumbai for specialized care.
Unfortunately, Mr. Soni succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning while under medical treatment. It was reported that he had been battling diabetes, which complicated his recovery. The district collector of Ujjain, Neeraj Kumar Singh, shared details of the incident and confirmed Mr. Soni’s death. He also informed that three other individuals who sustained burns during the incident are presently receiving treatment at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences in Indore. The rest of the injured have since recuperated from their injuries and have been discharged from the hospital. This tragic event has brought attention to the safety measures necessary during religious ceremonies to prevent such disasters in the future.
