New Delhi (Agency): The primary point of contention during the questioning were specific property documents. These were associated with 60 pieces of land, some undisclosed amounts of cash, and other valuable items that were not accounted for. All of these items were discovered during recent searches, shared an inside source.
Obtaining custody of Minister Senthil Balaji was not straightforward for the ED. After an extended legal tug-of-war spanning nearly two months, the minister was finally handed over to the directorate. Before this, he was in Puzhal prison. On Monday evening, after completing all required procedures with the prison authorities, the ED brought him to their office for further questioning.
Delving into the backstory, Senthil Balaji’s arrest took place on June 14. The reason? A money laundering case initiated by the ED. This case traced back to an earlier “cash for job” incident, which was flagged by the Central Crime Branch police in Chennai. Notably, at that time, Senthil Balaji held the position of transport minister under the AIADMK government.
He is slated to remain under the Enforcement Directorate’s supervision until August 12.
But there’s more to the minister’s personal story. Before his time at the Puzhal prison, he underwent heart surgery.
During one of the ED’s raids, several important documents connected to the land and other valuables were discovered. The location of this raid was quite telling—it was the residence of an individual believed to be a close confidant of Minister Senthil Balaji.
