Delhi’s LG VK Saxena Has Approved Demolition Of 10 Temples, Alleges AAP

PWD Minister Atishi criticized the demolition of the temple, asserting that the permission was granted by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena despite opposition from the former PWD minister Manish Sisodia.

New Delhi (Agency): Tension erupted in Delhi’s Mandawali area as a large group of people gathered near a temple to protest against the removal of a grill, which was deemed encroachment during a Public Works Department (PWD) drive. The protest led to traffic congestion, but the situation was later brought under control. The PWD carried out the encroachment drive with heavy police deployment, and the grill was peacefully removed. Locals participated in prayers at the temple after the completion of the drive.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Amrutha Guguloth stated that the encroachment drive was scheduled and the removal of the grill surrounding the temple was necessary as it encroached upon the footpath. Police provided assistance to PWD officials, ensuring law and order remained normal. Although the protesters have ceased their demonstration, they continue to stand on one side of the road near the temple premises.

PWD Minister Atishi criticized the demolition of the temple, asserting that the permission was granted by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena despite opposition from the former PWD minister Manish Sisodia. Atishi highlighted that the LG’s decision extended beyond Mandawali, as plans to demolish 10 other temples in Delhi have been made. She expressed the Aam Aadmi Party’s opposition to such encroachment drives and mentioned the party’s presence at the Mandawali site since Wednesday evening.

While the situation remains calm, this incident underscores the delicate balance between urban development and the preservation of religious structures. The removal of the temple grill has sparked concerns among the local community, prompting them to voice their discontent through peaceful protests. As the issue unfolds, it will be crucial to address the grievances of the residents and find a resolution that respects both their sentiments and the need for infrastructure development.
