Agency (Gujarat): The Gujarat Congress demanded on Monday that senior civic and state officials, as well as office-bearers of the ruling BJP, be named in the FIR concerning the Rajkot game zone fire, which claimed 35 lives on May 25.
During a press conference, state Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil urged the government to provide “generous” compensation to the families of the victims, noting that most of them come from humble backgrounds.
Gohil’s call for accountability came shortly after the state government suspended six officials for “gross negligence in allowing the game zone to operate without necessary approvals.” However, Gohil criticized the government’s actions, arguing that they only targeted low-ranking officials.
He remarked, “Several high-ranking officials, including the Rajkot mayor, collector, and municipal commissioner, had visited this place and shared their photographs on social media. How can a junior officer be expected to take action against the game zone management under such circumstances?”
Gohil presented photographs from the Facebook page of TRP Game Zone, where the fire incident occurred, resulting in the deaths of 27 people, including four children under the age of 12.
He highlighted a 2022 photo showing BJP office-bearers, including former mayor Pradip Dav, at TRP Arena. Another photograph depicted former BJP MLA Arvind Raiyani and other local BJP leaders at the same venue, suggesting their awareness and endorsement of the establishment.
