Agency (Karnataka): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated on Wednesday that the Centre has not responded to the state’s request to cancel the diplomatic passport of Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. The JD(S) leader faces charges of sexually abusing women, and an arrest warrant has been issued against him.
Speaking with PTI Videos, Parameshwara highlighted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is thoroughly probing the cases from all angles. “Still nothing has come (from the Centre). The Centre also should help us, that’s what we are urging. There is no meaning in only criticizing. The Centre should help us within the framework of the law,” he said.
Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM H D Deve Gowda, is facing charges of multiple instances of sexual abuse. Reports indicate that he left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hassan went to polls, and has since been at large. A Blue Corner Notice has been issued by Interpol following an SIT request via the CBI.
Parameshwara addressed the sensitivity of the case, noting the hardships faced by women involved and the societal pressures they encounter. He emphasized the importance of support for the victims and the need for justice.
JD(S) second-in-command H D Kumaraswamy alleged phone tapping by the Karnataka government, which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah denied. Siddaramaiah stated, “In my political life, whether as chief minister now or earlier, I have never done the dirty job of phone tapping. I have not done so far and will not do it in the future too.”
In a related development, the JD(S) complained to Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging he claimed Prajwal had “raped 400 women.” The complaint calls for a criminal case against Gandhi under section 202 of the IPC for his statements during election rallies in Shivamogga and Raichur on May 2.
Kumaraswamy has publicly appealed to his nephew Prajwal to return from abroad and face the investigation. He reiterated that the allegations have no bearing on the JD(S)-BJP alliance.
Prajwal’s father, Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna, who is also accused in molestation and kidnapping cases, assured the people of Hassan that his family would protect them. Revanna emphasized the long-standing support of his father, H D Deve Gowda, for the district.
The woman who was kidnapped and featured in one of the leaked videos alleged to involve Prajwal, stated in a police complaint that she was tied and raped. Revanna, currently on bail, urged calm and assured protection from his family.
