New Delhi (Agency):In a bid to protect the pristine beauty of Govind Sagar Lake, the district administration of Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, has taken a stand against the illegal dumping of muck. Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq, during a meeting held on Monday evening, emphasized that there should be no dumping of muck anywhere in the lake. This decision comes in response to a directive from the Himachal Pradesh High Court to put an end to the unlawful practice of dumping materials in Govind Sagar Lake.
During the meeting, the cases of debris resulting from the construction of the four-lane road Alsu Bridge, Mandi Bharadi, and Jagatkhana were brought to the forefront. Additionally, instances of illegal dumping in various areas of the lake by the Bhakra Dam Management Board were raised. Deputy Commissioner Sadiq instructed the officials from the National Highway Authority of India and a construction company to promptly remove the debris from the lake.
To ensure strict compliance, the deputy commissioner mandated that all sub-divisional officers submit action-taken reports on illegal dumping in their respective areas of jurisdiction twice a month. Furthermore, he directed the Pollution Control Board to collect fines in cases of illegal dumping, aiming to deter such activities effectively.
Recognizing the national importance of the four-laning project and the Bhakra Dam, the deputy commissioner emphasized the need to minimize damage to the Bhakra Dam during the construction process. Consequently, instructions were issued to improve the condition of all link roads with four lanes, aiming to minimize inconvenience for local residents.
With these measures in place, the district administration of Bilaspur is determined to protect the ecological integrity of Govind Sagar Lake. By cracking down on illegal dumping and ensuring strict adherence to regulations, the administration aims to preserve the natural beauty of this precious water body for future generations.
