New Delhi (Agency): On the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, addressed the public at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. His central message focused on Bihar’s development potential had it been granted special status.
Mr. Kumar spoke about initiatives launched even without the special state category. “Equal emphasis has been given to every section of the society in the development process,” Kumar noted. He highlighted the state’s focus on improving Madarsas. “The salary of Madarsa teachers has been made at par with the teachers of government schools,” he said.
He also informed that the state is actively working on developing land linked to Sunni and Shia Waquf boards, where community halls and market complexes are being constructed.
In an effort to support Muslim women, the financial aid under the Muslim Women Abandonment Plan has increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. “As of now, 14967 Muslim women have received this financial assistance,” Kumar pointed out.
To enhance the safety of temples, the government has introduced a scheme to construct boundary walls around them. While previously, only temples more than 60 years old were covered, now all temples under the Dharmik Nyaas Parishad will receive boundaries.
On the topic of media freedom, Kumar shared his concern without specifically mentioning the union government. He said the current media landscape feels “hijacked” and lacks true freedom, voicing hope that “after 2024 the media will become free and will publish as per its choice.”
Kumar also focused on the state’s farming community. “A subsidy of Rs 75 per litre in diesel is provided to support farmers,” he mentioned. Additionally, farmers receive electricity for irrigation at a subsidized rate, making it “20 times cheaper.”
The Chief Minister is also addressing the challenges faced by farmers due to unpredictable weather. Those unable to cultivate paddy due to insufficient rainfall will receive free seeds for alternative crops, ensuring they maintain their livelihood.
In the agricultural sector, Kumar highlighted the launch of the fourth agricultural roadmap with an investment exceeding Rs 1 lakh 62 thousand 268 crores. He emphasized the progress achieved from three prior roadmaps.
He reiterated a commitment to create “10 lakh jobs in the government sector” and assures that this target would be achieved by next year. Kumar also emphasized the ongoing teacher appointment process and infrastructure enhancements in educational institutions.
Speaking about health advancements, he stated that “telemedicine facility has been set up at all health centers,” benefiting over 75 lakh individuals.
Addressing law and order, Kumar said improvements were made from the police station level upwards. He highlighted the launch of the dial 112 emergency service with 400 dedicated vehicles. He applauded the efficiency of the call center in Patna, managed by female officers.
The state has also taken steps to combat cybercrime, setting up dedicated cyber police stations. Furthermore, Kumar stressed the state’s readiness to address any communal disturbances and praised the police’s proactive response.
In wrapping up his address, Nitish Kumar expressed hope and confidence in the bright future of Bihar, urging unity and communal harmony among its citizens.
