New Delhi (Agency): The Bihar government has directed District Magistrates (DMs) to not engage teachers and state Education Department employees in the document verification process for the School Teacher Recruitment Examination 2023. Chief Secretary Amir Subhani issued the instruction in a letter sent to all DMs on September 6.
“It has come to notice that employees of the Education department and government school teachers are being engaged in document verification work,” said Subhani. He made it clear that the practice must be “immediately stopped” and that personnel from other departments could handle these tasks instead.
The reason behind this directive is the state Education Department’s desire to maintain a focus on academic duties for its teachers and officials. Subhani highlighted that the department has been working to improve the academic atmosphere in government-run schools. He emphasized that involving teachers in verification work, especially when it’s for the recruitment of new teachers, is not appropriate.
The Teacher’s Association also welcomed the decision. Raju Singh, convener of the TET Primary Teachers’ Association, stated, “Teachers have already started offering their resignations in those areas where they are being engaged in non-teaching activities.” He questioned the timing of the ongoing verification, suggesting that it should be conducted only after the announcement of exam results to avoid wasting manpower.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) organized the examination for 170,461 teacher posts from August 24 to August 26, attracting more than 800,000 candidates. The verification process, which started on September 5, will continue until September 12. Necessary documents for verification include Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, caste certificate, and others.
Earlier this year, the Bihar Cabinet had approved the recruitment of 1.78 lakh teachers for primary, middle, and upper classes. The entire process is slated to be completed by the end of this year.
