New Delhi (Agency): In a move towards promoting sustainable mobility and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles (EVs), Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Electric Vehicle Skills and Training in Pulivendula. This state-of-the-art facility, a joint initiative by the Andhra Pradesh government and EV Masterclass, aims to develop a skilled workforce in EV technology and meet the talent demands of the growing EV industry.
The Andhra Pradesh government has been actively driving initiatives to foster sustainable mobility, including the deployment of electric vehicles in municipalities and a scheme to provide 1 lakh electric two-wheelers to government employees. The state has also been offering incentives and concessions to attract companies to set up their EV manufacturing units.
To further bolster the state’s capabilities and establish it as an ideal destination for EV manufacturers, the Centre of Excellence for Electric Vehicle Skills and Training was established. This unique facility replicates a regular electric vehicle assembly line, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in building EV components, battery packs, and integrating systems with the battery management system (BMS). The students are then guided to assemble the entire vehicle, providing them with a seamless transition into the EV manufacturing industry.
Rajeev YSR, the founder and CEO of EV Masterclass, expressed the significance of the lab, stating, “This is a first-of-its-kind initiative and state-of-the-art lab across the country. The entire layout is designed in such a way that students start with the components of electric vehicles, build the systems and battery packs, integrate with the BMS, and assemble the entire thing into an electric vehicle. This way, the students face no difficulties in adapting themselves to the Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Industry.”
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Reddy emphasized the importance of visual aids and animations to enhance students’ understanding of the assembly process. The lab incorporates multiple screens to explain the assembly of each component in detail.
Suresh Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, commended the initiative, recognizing the need for skilled manpower in the EV industry. He highlighted that the state-of-the-art EV lab would equip students not only with theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience through simulators and equipment, making them industry-ready from day one.
The Centre of Excellence for Electric Vehicle Skills and Training offers a 6-month EV Masterclass program, open to diploma and engineering graduates. Participants gain in-depth knowledge of electric vehicle technology and become eligible for employment in the industry. The skill academy provides hostel facilities for up to 300 students and supports graduates in job placement.
This pioneering initiative sets the stage for Andhra Pradesh to become a leading player in the electric vehicle sector. By focusing on skill development and providing cutting-edge training, the state aims to produce a highly skilled workforce that will drive the growth of the EV industry and contribute to a sustainable future.
