New Delhi (Agency): In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man was mercilessly lynched by a group of cow vigilantes in Nashik district, Maharashtra, on suspicion of transporting beef. This disturbing incident marks the second such incident in Nashik in the span of two weeks.
The horrifying attack occurred on Saturday evening near Gambhirwadi on Ghoti-Sinnar Road in Igatpuri area. The victim, identified as Afan Ansari (32), along with his associate Nasir Qureshi (24), was en route to Mumbai when they were ambushed by a mob of 10 to 15 cow vigilantes armed with steel rods and wooden sticks.
The brutal assault left both men with severe injuries. They were rushed to SMBT Hospital in Dhamangaon, where Ansari tragically succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Qureshi is currently undergoing medical treatment for his injuries.
In response to Qureshi’s complaint, the Ghoti police have arrested 11 individuals in connection with the incident. A case has been registered against them on charges of murder. The police have also sent samples of the meat for forensic testing as part of the ongoing investigation. This horrific incident sheds light on the alarming rise of cow vigilantism in the country, where self-appointed groups take the law into their own hands. The government and law enforcement agencies must take swift and stringent action to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent such acts of violence in the future.
