Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police, in coordination with central intelligence agencies, apprehended two terror operatives and recovered a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) in an intelligence-based operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak and Aditya alias Adhi. According to an official release, the RPG was allegedly intended for a targeted terror attack.
Preliminary investigations suggest the duo was in contact with an operative from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who is believed to have supplied the weapon. They were also in touch with Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, currently incarcerated at Ferozepur Jail, police said.
An FIR has been registered at the Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the terror network.
The Punjab Police reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling transnational terror and organized crime networks allegedly backed by Pakistan’s ISI, aiming to maintain peace and security in the state.
This operation follows a series of recent seizures along the Punjab border. On October 18, Punjab Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered a packet of heroin weighing 602 grams during a search near Tindiwala village in Ferozepur.
In another successful operation based on BSF intelligence inputs, a large packet containing 3.675 kilograms of ICE drug was recovered from farmland near Bhaini Rajputana village on the Amritsar border. The packet, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with a metal ring and illuminating strips, indicates a likely drone drop, officials said.
Additionally, BSF troops recovered a pistol wrapped in yellow tape from a field near Roranwala Khurd village in Amritsar during yet another search operation.
“These consecutive recoveries reflect BSF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring internal security,” said the Public Relations Officer of BSF Punjab Frontier.
