Jaipur: Mumbai Indians (MI) pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah etched his name further into IPL history on Thursday by becoming the seventh-highest wicket-taker in the league’s history. He achieved this feat during MI’s commanding 100-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Bumrah surpassed veteran spinner Amit Mishra on the all-time list, climbing to seventh with 176 wickets in 140 matches. He now leads Mishra, who has 174 wickets in 162 matches. Bumrah’s IPL career boasts an impressive average of 22.21, an economy rate of 7.28, and best bowling figures of 5/10, including two five-wicket hauls.
In Thursday’s clash, Bumrah delivered a clinical spell, finishing with figures of 2/15 in four overs. His breakthrough over in the powerplay claimed the key wickets of RR skipper Riyan Parag and big-hitter Shimron Hetmyer, putting RR on the back foot early in their chase of 218.
Currently the leading wicket-taker for MI, Bumrah has been in excellent form this season following his return from injury. He has taken 11 wickets in seven matches in IPL 2025 at an average of 17.72 and an economy of just 6.96, with best figures of 4/22.
In the match, MI were asked to bat first by RR. Openers Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) and Rohit Sharma (53 off 36) set the tone with a 116-run stand. Suryakumar Yadav (48* off 23) and captain Hardik Pandya (48* off 23) powered the innings further with a blazing unbeaten 94-run partnership, propelling MI to 217/2 in 20 overs.
In reply, RR crumbled under pressure, reduced to 47/5 in the powerplay. Jofra Archer top-scored with 30 off 27, but the team was bowled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Karn Sharma (3/23) and Trent Boult (3/28) led the bowling effort, while Bumrah and Pandya also chipped in with key wickets.
Rickelton was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his explosive knock.
With this dominant win, MI now top the IPL 2025 table with 14 points from 11 matches (seven wins, four losses). Meanwhile, RR’s playoff hopes have ended, as they sit eighth with just three wins from 11 games.
