New Delhi (Agency): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a striking statement on Monday, claiming that money is being spent to stir hatred among different communities in India. Her comments come at a time of rising tensions in the country, and she specifically pointed fingers at the BJP for funding some minority leaders to provoke communal unrest.
Speaking at a function at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, Banerjee emphasized that she stands firmly against any form of animosity or discrimination based on religion. She said, “Money is being spent to spur hatred among communities in the country… The BJP is funding some minority leaders to instigate communal tension ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.” Her remarks have ignited a debate on the role of political funding in promoting discord in the country.
The BJP, or Bharatiya Janata Party, is a major political force in India, and Banerjee’s accusations suggest a deliberate attempt to manipulate the political climate. She also accused the saffron party of trying to use other political groups like the Congress and CPI(M) against her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in Bengal.
But Banerjee’s allegations did not stop with the BJP. She also discussed a tragic incident involving the death of a first-year student at Jadavpur University (JU) due to alleged ragging. The Chief Minister expressed her pride in Jadavpur University but also claimed that a CPI(M)-backed union was involved in the fresher’s death.
Furthermore, Banerjee made a bold prediction about the future of the BJP government at the Centre, saying that its tenure is “just six more months.” Her comment reflects a growing opposition sentiment and sets the stage for a heated political battle leading up to the Lok Sabha elections.
