Agency (Uttar Pradesh): On Tuesday, ten parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will see polling in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The spotlight is on Samajwadi Party’s influential Yadav family as well as high-profile BJP candidates.
Dimple Yadav, who took over her father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Mainpuri seat in a by-election after his passing, aims to retain this stronghold. Akshaya Yadav, son of Ram Gopal Yadav, seeks to reclaim Firozabad, which he won in 2014. Aditya Yadav, son of Shivpal Yadav, will make his electoral debut from Budaun, a seat held by his cousin Dharmendra Yadav in 2014.
Other prominent candidates include Union Minister S.P. Singh Baghel (Agra, SC), Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jayveer Singh (Mainpuri), and Minister of State for Revenue Anoop Pradhan Balmiki (Hathras, SC). BJP stalwart Kalyan Singh’s son, Rajveer Singh, aims to win his third term from Etah, a seat previously held by his father under the Jan Kranti Party.
In Bareilly, the main contest is between the BJP’s Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar and the Samajwadi Party’s Praveen Singh Aron, after the BSP’s Master Chhotey Lal Gangwar was disqualified.
The BJP introduces five fresh candidates this phase, replacing existing contenders in Bareilly, Budaun, Hathras-SC, and Firozabad. The new nominees are Chhatrapal Gangwar, Durvijay Singh Shakya, Anoop Pradhan Balmiki, and Vishwadeep Singh. Jayveer Singh, the sole new BJP candidate who didn’t replace an incumbent, contests the Mainpuri seat.
The BJP retained its successful candidates in Etah, Agra-SC, Aonla, and Fatehpur Sikri. Parameshwar Lal Saini was given the Sambhal ticket.
The Congress fields Ramnath Singh Sikarwar in Fatehpur Sikri, while its INDIA bloc ally, the Samajwadi Party, contests the remaining nine seats.
Polling will occur in constituencies like Sambhal, Hathras (SC), Agra (SC), Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Budaun, Aonla, and Bareilly.
With over 1.88 crore eligible voters, this phase will determine the fate of 100 candidates.
