New Delhi (Agency): During a recent public rally in Rajasthan, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi made critical remarks about the opposition alliance’s name, ‘INDIA’. The alliance, which comprises 26 parties, is officially named the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA).
In response to the Prime Minister’s comments, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien asked, “Why are you so negative?” He communicated his concerns through a video message, challenging the Prime Minister for his attitude towards the opposition. O’Brien commented, “Hello PM @NarendraModi, you’re at it again! Attacking our new name. INDIA, Jeetega Bharat. What’s happened?”
The Prime Minister compared the name of the opposition alliance to that of the East India Company and the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). He pointed out that these entities, despite using the country’s name, had harmful intentions towards India.
Moreover, O’Brien critiqued External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for his recent statement in Parliament. The TMC MP asserted that the Prime Minister prioritized tourism over the well-being of the people of Manipur.
Responding to Jaishankar’s claims about India’s foreign policy developments, O’Brien remarked, “Today in #Parliament PM @narendramodi minister reading out unending 30 minute statement on foreign affairs Priorities of Government are clear. For Modi, TOURISM MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOSE SUFFERING IN #MANIPUR.”
Jaishankar, speaking outside of Parliament, criticized the opposition for disrupting his speech. He questioned the opposition’s commitment to the country, stating, “if they are not prepared to listen about India’s national interests then what kind of India are they?”
The escalating tension between the government and the opposition reflects the political heat in the country, with both sides ramping up their rhetoric ahead of the upcoming election.
