Agency(Tamil Nadu): On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the special projects initiated by the Union Government for Tamil Nadu, which were allegedly hindered by the state’s administration. This call to action was Stalin’s counter to Modi’s previous assertion that the Tamil Nadu government, under DMK’s leadership, obstructed several Central schemes.
In a public address at a government function in Pollachi, Stalin refuted Modi’s claims, suggesting that the Prime Minister’s allegations were baseless. He challenged Modi to specify which projects were stalled by the DMK government, highlighting a contradiction between Modi’s promotional campaigns, which boasted ‘Modi’s Guarantee’ of progress and actual developments in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin also revisited Modi’s past promises, including the pledge to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s bank account and to generate two crore jobs annually, questioning the fulfillment of these guarantees. The event marked a series of welfare distributions, project inaugurations, and foundation stone layings.
The Chief Minister’s challenge comes ahead of another anticipated visit by Modi to Tamil Nadu. Stalin encouraged the public to seek direct answers from Modi regarding his contributions to the state’s development.
Denouncing the Prime Minister’s accusations as “Modi’s lie,” Stalin provided an example of the delayed AIIMS project in Madurai, announced in the 2015-16 Union budget but only recently initiated, to counter Modi’s allegations of the DMK’s obstruction.
Stalin questioned the accountability of the project’s delay, absolving former AIADMK Chief Ministers and the DMK of any interference in its realization. He criticized Modi’s approach as deceitful, especially in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and dismissed the BJP’s narratives as unconvincing to the public.
Further criticizing the AIADMK and BJP’s relationship as detrimental to Tamil Nadu, Stalin appealed for public support to defeat these “fascist” forces. He showcased new developmental initiatives by the DMK government, contrasting them with the AIADMK’s tenure, and accused the previous administration of neglecting the state’s welfare, referencing significant controversies including the Pollachi sexual assault case and the Kodanadu estate crime.
Stalin positioned the DMK and its supporters as defenders of Tamil Nadu’s welfare against the purportedly harmful alliance of AIADMK and BJP. He asserted that despite central non-cooperation, his administration has significantly contributed to the state’s development, suggesting even greater achievements could have been possible with supportive Central governance.
Concluding his speech, Stalin envisioned the establishment of a central government that collaborates closely with state governments, signaling a call for change in the forthcoming elections.
