Agency(West Bengal): In the political brew of India, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Member of Parliament, Shatrughan Sinha, has described the opposition alliance, INDIA, as akin to “filtered coffee,” suggesting a rich and potent mixture gaining traction ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Sinha underscores the importance of not underestimating the Congress party, given its historical ability to make significant political comebacks.
Praising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his “revolutionary yatras” throughout the country, Sinha simultaneously casts TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a potential “game-changer” post-election. The Asansol MP critiqued the electoral bond as a major controversy and exploitation scheme by the BJP, positing the seven-phase elections as an advantageous platform for the opposition to unveil the alleged malpractices tied to electoral bonds.
Sinha firmly believes in the defeat of the BJP in the upcoming election, advocating for the support of the masses behind the INDIA alliance, which includes influential leaders like Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, among others. He envisions the alliance as a “filtered coffee” that will only improve as more opposition leaders join post-elections.
Despite the hesitation of parties like AAP and TMC to position Congress at the forefront of the opposition, Sinha asserts the necessity of Congress’s involvement, likening it to an essential component of any effective alliance. He highlights the ground-level challenges of forming alliances in states like Punjab and Bengal, which could inadvertently benefit the BJP, but remains optimistic about post-election unity to challenge the incumbent government.
Mocking the BJP’s ambitious claims of securing an overwhelming majority, Sinha accuses the party of potential manipulation and malpractice to achieve such results, drawing parallels to controversial government formations in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
The TMC leader also spotlighted the electoral bond issue as a significant opportunity for the opposition to highlight the BJP’s alleged extortion practices, using the extended election period as a platform to inform the electorate.
Amidst these assertions, Sinha praised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and nationwide campaigns, while hinting at Mamata Banerjee’s pivotal role in potential post-election government formation discussions. Sinha, a former BJP member who joined the TMC in 2022, expressed confidence in retaining his Asansol seat with an even larger margin than in the 2022 bypolls, reflecting his belief in the strength and appeal of the INDIA bloc and its constituents.
