Agency (Gurgaon, Haryana): In a sharp critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) tenure in Haryana, Congress candidate Raj Babbar, contesting from the Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency, has alleged a significant lack of development in the area. Speaking with ANI, Babbar expressed concerns that the current leaders are more focused on revenue generation from Gurgaon rather than addressing the developmental needs of its residents.
Babbar, an actor-turned-politician, questioned the effectiveness of previous MPs from the region, challenging them to account for any significant achievements over the past decade. He suggested that the state government has neglected the city, leaving its people helpless. “Did any agency do anything here in 10 years? Name one,” Babbar challenged, highlighting his perspective on the stagnation under the BJP’s rule.
In the upcoming election, Babbar is up against Rao Inderjit Singh, a former Congress member who has been the BJP’s representative for the constituency since 2008. Singh switched to the BJP in 2014 and secured a robust victory in the 2019 elections. Also in the fray is Bollywood singer and rapper Rahul Fazilpuria, representing the Jannayak Janta Party.
The Congress has arranged a seat-sharing deal with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana, where Congress will contest nine out of the ten Lok Sabha seats, and AAP will take the remaining one. This strategic alignment is part of the broader INDIA bloc’s effort to consolidate opposition votes against the BJP, which achieved a clean sweep in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state.
