Agency(Kerala): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while campaigning in his Lok Sabha constituency of Wayanad, Kerala, questioned the ruling BJP and its ideological wing RSS for what he perceives as their narrow vision of India’s identity. Speaking to supporters and party workers, Gandhi highlighted the diversity of India as its strength, contrary to the BJP’s advocacy for “one nation, one language, one leader.”
Gandhi argued that imposing a single language or leader on India undermines the country’s rich cultural mosaic. He used the metaphor of a bouquet of flowers to illustrate the beauty of India’s diversity, stating that forcing uniformity would be as absurd as demanding all flowers in a bouquet be white. He emphasized that languages like Malayalam are not just means of communication but are connections to deep cultural histories.
The Congress MP also addressed local issues during his campaign, such as the human-animal conflict and the night travel ban in Wayanad, promising to resolve these concerns in collaboration with local authorities. He reassured the public of his commitment to protect Kerala’s cultural and linguistic identity against what he described as the colonizing ideology of the RSS.
Gandhi’s visit to Wayanad marks his continued effort to secure re-election in a constituency that significantly favored him in the 2019 polls. With Kerala’s Lok Sabha seats set to vote on April 26, Gandhi’s campaign seeks to bolster the Congress’s standing both in the state and nationally ahead of the election results announced on June 4.
