Agency(Punjab): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) witnessed a significant political gain in Punjab as Ravneet Singh Bittu, a three-time Member of Parliament from the Congress party, officially joined the BJP on Tuesday. Bittu, who is also the grandson of the late Beant Singh, a celebrated anti-terrorism figure and former Chief Minister of Punjab, has represented Ludhiana in the outgoing Lok Sabha.
Upon his induction into the BJP, Bittu expressed high praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, acknowledging their dedication and plans for the advancement of Punjab. He articulated a popular sentiment leaning towards the re-election of the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, emphasizing the urgency to address Punjab’s lagging development compared to other states. Bittu committed to serving as a liaison for the state’s farmers, laborers, and industrial sectors to bridge existing gaps.
Reflecting on Punjab’s tumultuous history with terrorism, Bittu commended the efforts of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in promoting peace within the state. BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde remarked that Bittu’s transition to the BJP would significantly bolster the party’s strength, especially in a strategic time when the BJP is preparing to contest the Punjab polls independently for the first time in decades. This move comes after the dissolution of its long-standing alliance with the Akali Dal, marking a pivotal moment in Punjab’s political landscape as negotiations for rekindling the partnership fell through.
