Agency(New Delhi): Lok Sabha MP Preneet Kaur, who was suspended from the Congress for alleged anti-party activities, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday in New Delhi. Her move comes after her husband, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, also shifted allegiance to the BJP, leaving the Congress. Kaur’s transition to the BJP marks a significant political realignment ahead of the forthcoming elections, reflecting the ongoing shifts within Indian political dynamics.
During a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Kaur expressed her contentment with the new political chapter and extended her gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Chief JP Nadda, and the broader BJP family for welcoming her. She highlighted Modi’s leadership and the accomplishments of his government over the past decade as key factors influencing her decision to join the party. Kaur underscored her confidence in Modi’s vision, asserting that the country’s future and the prospects of the younger generation are secure under his stewardship.
Kaur’s induction into the BJP was celebrated by senior party officials, including national general secretaries Arun Singh, Vinod Tawde, Tarun Chugh, and chief spokesperson Anil Baluni, alongside Punjab BJP figures such as Vijay Rupani and Sunil Jakhar. The BJP leadership praised Kaur’s track record and potential, anticipating her contribution to strengthen the party’s position in Punjab and furthering the state’s development under Modi’s leadership.
This significant political move by Kaur not only reinforces the BJP’s strategic positioning in Punjab but also signals the party’s intent to consolidate its influence by attracting experienced politicians from other parties. Kaur’s switch to the BJP is expected to enhance the party’s electoral prospects in Punjab, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s political landscape as it gears up for future electoral contests.
