Agency (New Delhi): Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, highlighted on June 4, 2024, that the primary takeaway from the Lok Sabha election results is the Indian people’s clear rejection of Narendra Modi and his governance style. Addressing the media at the AICC headquarters as vote counting was ongoing and trends indicated a lack of majority for the BJP, Gandhi articulated the public’s disapproval.
Gandhi stated, “The people of this country have unanimously and clearly told Narendra Modi that they reject him. They do not want Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr. Amit Shah involved in running the country. This election has made that clear.”
He further explained that the electorate’s message was a repudiation of the past decade’s governance and the perceived attacks on the Constitution. According to Gandhi, the Lok Sabha election was a battle to protect the Constitution, fought collectively by the citizens of India.
As the results unfolded, showing the Congress party potentially securing over 100 seats and the BJP failing to achieve a majority, the Congress expressed gratitude to the voters during a press conference. Gandhi reflected on past challenges, such as the seizure of party bank accounts, the imprisonment of elected chief ministers, and engineered defections, asserting that these actions led him to believe that the people would unite to defend the Constitution.
Gandhi praised the electorate, alliance partners, and party workers, describing the outcome as a significant step toward safeguarding the Constitution. He underscored that the Congress had offered a clear, pro-poor, and pro-production vision for the country, attributing the success to the efforts of farmers, Dalits, and Adivasis, who took a stand when many remained silent.
In a pointed remark, Gandhi mentioned the decline in Adani Group shares following the election results, implying a direct link between Narendra Modi and Adani, suggesting that the market viewed their fortunes as intertwined.
