Agency(New Delhi): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a public rally in Arambagh, Hooghly district, delivered a vehement critique of the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal, particularly highlighting the Sandeshkhali incident. He described the sexual violence perpetrated by TMC leaders as a source of national shame and anger, accusing the state government of failing to protect its women and of rampant corruption.
Modi also targeted the opposition INDIA bloc for its silence on the atrocities in Sandeshkhali, comparing their inaction to the “three monkeys” of Mahatma Gandhi who see, hear, and speak no evil. He assured that those who have embezzled public funds would face justice, emphasizing the egregiousness of the TMC’s actions against the women of Sandeshkhali as an affront to the state’s values of Maa, Mati, Manush (Mother, Land, and People).
The Prime Minister accused the TMC government of corruption across various sectors, including recruitment and public distribution systems. He claimed that the TMC has developed a new model of crime and corruption, shielding criminals in exchange for protection. Modi lamented the obstruction of central projects by the state government, which he argued undermines the development and empowerment of marginalized communities within West Bengal.
He expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, highlighting the party’s ambition to win a significant majority of Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Prime Minister’s speech was met with strong rebuttals from TMC officials, who labeled his allegations as baseless and questioned the BJP’s record on women’s safety and corruption.
The Sandeshkhali controversy has ignited a political firestorm, with Modi’s comments bringing national attention to the issue of sexual violence and political corruption in West Bengal. As the debate escalates, both the TMC and BJP are positioning themselves ahead of upcoming electoral battles, each seeking to galvanize support by addressing the concerns of West Bengal’s citizens.
